Public Library is located at Library Buildings, Convent Road, Ernakulam.It has about 5000 square feet of area accomodating various sections. Ernakulam public library consist of following sections:
The Book Room is the heart of the library. All the books except books at reference section and new arrival section are kept here. We have above 100,000 books in various languages and categories. The books are arranged in such manner that you can access them easily. Books are categorized to about ten categories and each of them is subdivided. This helps to easily access the books. Only permitted members and staffs are allowed to access this section.
This section is available for every one who wants to use. The general reading room will function all days except the holiday that has got. Normally the reading will be open from 8 AM to 8 PM every day. General reading goods like dailies, periodicals etc are provided for the users. It is the responsibility of the users to keep these things out of damage or any defects. For the smooth and steady functioning of these section users must follow the rules given for them.
This section is only available for the members of the Library. The members must produce their membership tickets in order to use this room. Normally this room will function all the library working days. There are no time restrictions for users who use this section. However the users cannot use this room for their own personal or public needs. In this section users can have any of the books, periodicals, and dailies etc that are provided. Users are not allowed to take these holdings to outside.
Ladies and Children’s Room
As the name implies this section is only available for the female members and children. This section will function all the working days except the library holidays. In order to use this section the corresponding members have to produce their membership tickets. For child members assistance is always available from the library staff, for the search and selection of their desired library material.
Members who want to borrow books can only get their books from here. Any members who need books from the library must request his needs here. Books are issued to members only at this section. Here you can enquire directly about all of your library needs. The staffs at this section will fulfill your requirements. On demand all the assistance for the users are available at this section.
Reference Section
The library has a reference section which is an excellent compilation of choice books exclusively for quality reading and reference in almost all subjects.We have the latest encyclopedia,dictionaries as well as several rare books which are at present out of print.It is only for the members of the library though with the consent of the Librarian any person can have a glance at the resources available here.A highly academic atmosphere is maintained in this section and members have the facility to take photostats of the material inside this section itself.This section houses the Career Guidance section of the library.Here all the latest books required for major competitive examinations are stocked.Quality books to prepare the students for Civil Services,Engineering and Medical entrance,Law entrance and other major examinations are available in this section.Another unique feature is that any member can get an idea about the different avenues available for further studies from this section.However under no circustances are members allowed to take books out of this section.The Reference Section is open on all days in which the library functions.
